About the role

The Payload Systems Chief Engineer, reporting directly to the Space Systems technical manager, is responsible for telecommunications payload engineering aspects of the Satellite, and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) design, development, assembly, integration and test while supporting the Manufacture and Test Operations and Mission Operations departments in achieving a quality, elegant technical solution.  The role will be permanently based in Denver, Colorado with routine domestic and international travel.

Requirements for the role


  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, or related discipline

  • Substantial relevant satellite telecommunication experience,

  • Explicit experience with equipment and subsystems including SSPAs, LNAs, phased arrays, transmitters/receivers, and other related hardware as applicable to both analog and digital payloads

  • Strong knowledge of end-to-end telecommunication systems performances including theory and practicalities of link budgets, with detailed understanding of both RF (millimeter wave), and digital implementations

  • Hands on experience with RF lab equipment including VNA, power meters, spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators and vector network analyzers.

Preference may be given to candidates with

  • Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Related Discipline,

  • Demonstrated specific technical management experience with a Commercial Telecommunications Space development program.

  • Direct responsible for designing, testing, and verifying on-orbit telecommunication systems.

  • Experience with RF and EM simulation software.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully navigate through Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action process to achieve a quality, elegant, effective way forward.



You will be responsible for


  • Hands-on technical oversite and leadership of the major payload vendors/subsystems including the specification, design, development, assembly, integration, test, launch and early operations,

  • Ensuring payload interface compatibility with other major components including with the Avionics subsystem, and RF (space-to-ground) interfaces,

  • Close oversite of payload integration and test activities, as well as end-to-end compatibility activities,

  • Rigorous payload performance budgets maintenance and updates,

  • Exciting next generation payload trade studies and developments.
